Print and installation dimensions vary

Sporenland is the first edition of a series made in response to an encounter with a photo archive by an alpine photographer Heinrich Schildknecht (1874-1959).

A large part of the c.300 glass negatives are group portraits of mountain guides and clients, including men wearing moustaches, women in skirts and a child, taken on the highest peak in Austria: the Grossglockner.

A single glass negative, with mould and water damage, dated from 1906 was selected from the archive and used as a source material for this series.

Sporenland was installed at fotodiskurs, Augsburg in 2018 with an extensive accompanying catalogue, and one of the original images by Heinrich printed as counterpart.
