During the first Covid-19 lockdown, I slipped through a portal that was created by the light on my windowsill, which had fallen on a stone brought from a French hilltop and a book: The Beauty of Everyday Things. From its position on the book, the stone cast a shadow that changed form as I moved it in the bright Spring light.
I travelled to the subconscious region between memory and imagination, and found an island created by the shadows, that both ebbed and flowed, approached and receded; oscillating between a Fabled Isle and a Blue Hole.
When the images of the islands were formed I slipped cyanotype paper into the light to capture the shadows and create the works in this series.
